During the making of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back™, some shots of the Wampa™ were made with a costumed actor, however, the dramatic first close-ups of the creature when it attacks Luke on his Tauntaun were actually achieved with a puppet crafted by legendary creature maker, Phil Tippett!

Our static resin and mixed media bust is a faithful replica of that puppet and was created with a highly detailed laser scan and extensive, hands-on research of the original prop artifact used in the film

This Phil Tippett Legacy Edition goes beyond a signature edition to provide each owner with a truly unique work-of-art!

Limited to just 100 pieces, each hand-finished replica in this Legacy Edition will include a premium expanded plaque including a one-of-a-kind Wampa scene sketch, each one dreamed-up and hand-drawn by legendary creature creator Phil Tippett!  The fearured 3 5/8” wide sketch comes beautifully matted within an 5”x7” frame that also houses a hand-numbered metal nameplate, hand-signed by Tippett. That frame can either stand on a table top or hang on a wall.

At approximately 13” tall x 19.25” wide (including the oak wood display base), each Wampa  replica is 100% made in the U.S.A. Each resin replica in this edition is meticulously hand assembled and hand painted by the artists in our New York studio, making each a unique tribute to the artistry involved behind the scenes of our favorite films! They’re further enhanced with hand-applied fur, hand-laid hair, custom glass eyes, and the same fur treatment used in the film’s production to simulate ice.

This prop replica will be packed in a cardboard shipper box with die-cut foam insert and COA.

Do not miss this extraordinary opportunity to bring home not just an authentic replica, recreated from the original artifact, but also an original work of art with a direct connection to the artists that inspire us!

Wampa Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back bust

The Archive Collection - Recreating an Artifact

“When Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back debuted I was captivated by the scenes on Hoth and how they were achieved. Behind-the-scenes documentaries discussed the Wampa costume designed for the film but later I learned about the much smaller puppet crafted by Phil Tippett that was used for the close-up looks at the beast when it attacked Luke Skywalker and his Tauntaun! Once again, ILM used their wizardry to create something larger than life.

Eventually seeing this original bust puppet in the prop archives was an eye opening experience. I’d seen photos of it in classic prop books and studied them for years… but to be face-to-face with the creature revealed so many details.  We spent an extraordinary amount of time hands-on with that original prop, over the course of several visits, using photography, 3D laser-scanning and even a borescope to help with our research of the original artifact for this edition.

Over the course of many months, we redesigned our prototype several times to work in new discoveries the original prop revealed to us. I’m especially proud of the work that Regal Robot’s lead digital artist, Christian Maggi did on this project and I personally did the finish work on the first prototypes and designed the paint work. The end result is a static resin replica that I believe really captures the feeling I had when looking at the original prop.

We’ve been so fortunate to work with original creature sculptor, Phil Tippett, on this special Legacy Edition for which he hand-sketched 100 completely unique drawings so that every collector that brings one of this replicas into their homes has something absolutely original and extraordinary.

We’re all so proud of this special prop replica, and I can’t wait to see it in the collections of discerning prop and statue fans and Star Wars collectors!”
