This Signature Edition Klaatu™ Concept Maquette Replica is part of our Star Wars™ Archive Collection, a continuation and expansion of our work creating authentic replicas with impeccable lineage.
Limited to just 100 pieces, each hand-painted maquette in this Signature Edition includes a metal plaque hand-signed by legendary ILM visual effects supervisor, Ken Ralston. In addition to his visual effects work, Ralston was part of the team that did concept work for the ILM creature shop on Star Wars: Return of the Jedi™. As part of that work, he sculpted the maquette for the Klaatu alien character.
This maquette was the first step in designing the “Klatooinian” creatures that would show up in the palace, sail barge and skiffs of Jabba the Hutt™. With hands-on access to the original film artifact and high resolution 3D scanning, our team crafted a faithful recreation of the concept maquette for this iconic alien from the movie.
At approximately 7” tall (including the wood display base), each is cast in solid polyurethane resin. 100% made in the U.S.A., every replica in this edition is meticulously hand painted by the artists in our New York studio, making each a unique tribute to the artistry involved behind the scenes of our favorite films!
Do not miss this extraordinary opportunity to bring home an authentic replica, scanned from the original artifact with a direct connection to the artists that inspire us!
Each statue in this signature edition includes a metal plaque and COA. Each is hand packed in a gloss black box with die-cut foam insert, and double-boxed for shipping.

The Archive Collection - Recreating an Artifact
“When Star Wars: Return of the Jedi debuted, the battle at the Sarlaac was mesmerizing! It was a dizzying array of action, cool ships and outrageous creatures. The classic, behind-the-scenes documentaries showcasing the work of Phil Tippett’s creature shop during the production of that 1983 film were a big part of what led me to a life in the world of FX and movie monsters.
We’ve been so fortunate to work with Ken on our sold-out Weequay Concept Maquette Signature Edition and are thrilled to have him back for this Klaatu Signature Edition!
I can’t wait to see these maquette replicas in the collections of discerning prop and statue fans and Star Wars collectors!”
– Tom Spina (Regal Robot founder)
During the production of films, the creature effects team will often dream up new and fantastic aliens and beasts by creating small scaled sculptures, called “maquettes,” to showcase their ideas. From this menagerie of maquettes, the film’s director and producer choose which characters will be brought to life for the film as costumes or puppets and what roles they will play in the story.
This incredible design was chosen to become a lizard-like skiff guard. Ralston sculpted the maquette that would develop the character and be used during the making of the full scale masks that brought this alien character to life. Our replica was 3D scanned off that original maquette in the prop archives and paint mastered by Max Frey in our New York studio, where each piece will be hand finished for this edition.
We are excited to share this new entry in our expanding Archive Collection and look forward to sharing our latest art and characters with you.
