Regal Robot props, replicas and collectibles

This very special Yuzzum™ Early Concept Maquette Replica – Dual Signature Legacy Edition is part of our Star Wars™ Archive Collection, a continuation and expansion of our work creating authentic replicas with impeccable lineage.

With hands-on access to the original film artifact and high resolution 3D scanning, our team has crafted a faithful recreation of this concept of the fan-favorite alien from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi™.  That original maquette is marked “Rodis/Elkins.” During pre-production of the film, Nilo Rodis-Jamero did the original sketches of the character and Judy Elkins sculpted the maquette.

This extremely limited Legacy Edition of just 40 pieces goes beyond a signature edition to provide each owner with a truly unique work-of-art. Each hand-painted maquette in this edition will include a premium expanded plaque including a one-of-a-kind illustration of the creature, hand-drawn by concept designer, Nilo Rodis-Jamero. The included 3 5/8” wide sketch comes beautifully matted within an 5”x7” frame that also houses a hand-numbered metal nameplate, hand-signed for this DUAL SIGNATURE EDITION by Rodis and Elkins. That frame can either stand on a table top or hang on a wall.

Yuzzum is one of the largest Return of the Jedi maquettes, at approximately 11 1/8″ tall (including the wood display base). Each resin maquette is 100% made in the U.S.A. and features customized faux fur from the same source used by the creature makers back in 1983. Every replica in this edition is meticulously hand painted by the artists in our New York studio, making each a unique tribute to the artistry involved behind the scenes of our favorite films!

Vintage production polaroids show the maquette originally featured a kit-bashed blaster rifle. Later 1983 images show Yuzzum empty handed and he remains that way today in the prop archives. Using vintage photos, the original model parts used in crafting that blaster have been discovered and our team referenced those when digitally recreating the blaster for this edition. Each Yuzzum Maquette Replica comes with a resin blaster and small magnets help the maquette hold it in the proper position to match those vintage photos.

The maquettes are hand packed in a gloss black box with die-cut foam insert and COA, and double-boxed for shipping.

Do not miss this extraordinary opportunity to bring home not just an authentic replica, scanned from the original artifact, but also an original work of art with a direct connection to the artists that inspire us!

Yuzzum concept maquette replica as seen in the making of Star Wars Return of the Jedi

The Archive Collection - Recreating an Artifact

“The classic making-of documentary, From Star Wars to Jedi: the Making of a Saga gave us some great looks at the character Yuzzum. Even though he was tough to spot in the final film, I was always taken with his fun look. These documentaries were how fans like me relived the film and explored the darkened corners of that palace and the creatures who resided there. Learning about the ILM creature shop during the production of that 1983 film was a big part of what led me to a life in the world of FX and movie monsters.

The alien was originally sketched by concept artist and costume designer, Nilo Rodis-Jamero, who hand-drew the sketches for this edition. Judy Elkins sculpted the maquette and we’re honored to have had both artists sign the plaques for this very special dual-signature edition!  I can’t wait to see it in the collections of discerning prop and statue fans and Star Wars collectors!”

– Tom Spina (Regal Robot founder)

During the production of films, the creature effects team will often dream up new and fantastic aliens and beasts by creating small scaled sculptures, called “maquettes,” to showcase their ideas. From this menagerie of maquettes, the film’s director and producer choose which characters will be brought to life for the film as costumes or puppets and what roles they will play in the story.

Sculpted by Judy Elkins, this concept was chosen to be the Yuzzum species. While the species would be revisited in the 90’s Special Editions to become the new Rebo Band singer, Joh Yowza, this particular iteration of the alien was known in Legends canon as Wam Lufba and is seen in many behind the scenes photos of Jabba’s palace and in documentaries like “Classic Creatures: Return of the Jedi” and “From Star Wars to Jedi: The Making of a Saga.”
